Getting There

First thing you need to do is pick up your check-in packet which contains key cards. Go here...

Summit County Mountain Retreats (SCMR)
22869 US-6 #204, Keystone, CO 80435
(970) 368-4800
(keep this number handy! SCMR will be your local contact/host if you run into any issues during your stay)

Go through the double doors into the lobby and you'll find a series of lockboxes on the left. Go to the lockbox corresponding to your Last Name.

  • Enter the lockbox code and the knob at the bottom should pop out.
  • Turn the knob to the left.
  • Open the lockbox.
  • Take the packet with your name on it.
  • Close the lockbox, turn the knob to the right and push the knob back in.
At this point the lockbox should be closed and locked again.

If you run into any problems or can't find your packet, the SCMR office is just up the stairs where someone can help you. If it's after hours and the office is closed, call SCMR at (970)-368-4800 and someone will assist. They have someone available 24/7 to assist with any emergencies, etc.

NOTE: You will receive a message with the lockbox code in the days leading up to check-in.

Once you have your packet which contains your key cards, proceed to the condo (2 minute drive away)...

Expedition Station
135 Dercum Dr, #8558
Keystone, CO 80435

The entrance to the parking garage is on the South side of the building facing the ski mountain (in the image above, the green horseshoe is the building, and red marks the garage entrance). Your key card will get you into the garage. Park in whatever space you'd like.

NOTE: There is a nightly fee for the garage. Once in the garage, you'll see signs everywhere with a QR code (also in the elevators). Use that code to register your vehicle and pay for parking. The system only allows for 1 car per unit, so you won't be able to register multiple cars. The rate varies depending on whether it's peak season or not. Currently, it's $8/day during ski season and $3/day during summer months. Also, note that a 'day' of parking extends till noon the following day. For example, if you park on a Thursday afternoon and pay for just one day, you are good until noon on Friday.

If you happen to be driving an oversized vehicle that can't easily fit in the garage, you can park in the skier parking lot just north of Expedition Station. It's recommended that you contact the Keystone Reservations desk and purchase an overnight parking pass from them if you choose to use their lot.

From the garage, take the elevators to the first floor. When you exit the elevator, take a right and go down the hall. Just past the common area, you'll find #8558 on the right.

There are luggage carts and mini grocery carts available at the garage level. In the elevator room, you'll see an exit to the stairwell. The carts will be at the base of that stairwell. Please return carts to this location once you're finished.

If you happen to be coming via I-70 from the East, and it's daytime, you should consider taking Loveland Pass into Keystone, vs going through the tunnel. Only do this if the weather permits! The views from up there are stunning, and you end up passing by the Colorado famous Arapahoe Basin ski area. Loveland Pass will take you right into Keystone.

Early Check-in! (and late check-out)

Early check-in might be possible for your stay, depending on SCMR's housekeeping schedule and whether or not another guest checked out the same morning that you're checking in. If you'd like to try and check-in early, please call SCMR the day before your arrival and ask them if it's possible. FYI, there is an early check-in fee (as of this writing, it's $15 for every hour early). This is not money that comes to us. It's a fee charged by our management company directly to guests who request early check-in. This is written into our contract with SCMR and unfortunately it's non-negotiable from our end.

Likewise, late check-out might be possible, especially depending on whether or not there's another guest checking in that afternoon. Again, there may be a fee charged by SCMR which is out of our control. If you'd like a later check-out, call SCMR the day before your departure to see if it's possible.

Groceries

If you plan on cooking meals, look up City Market in Dillon. They're the closest full size grocery store. And it's a lot cheaper than the expensive shop in the village (Rock'n R Ranch). Definitely pick up your food/drink from City Market if you're able to. The condo should have everything you need with regards to pots, pans, utensils, crock pot, air fryer, blender, plus a half dozen or so spices. If you're coffee drinkers, housekeeping leaves a small pouch next to the coffee maker, but it's only enough for a few cups, so if you're coffee people, definitely pick up extra from the store!

ICE!

When you get into the condo, you'll notice there's no ice! That's because housekeeping dumps any ice from previous guests and turns off the ice maker (for health regulation purposes). As soon as you get into the condo, you'll want to turn on the ice machine in the freezer. And there's 3 ice trays in there as well. If you fill those about half way, you should have ice in about an hour just to get you going. Or you can also get a bag from Rock'n R Ranch for around 5 bucks.

Using BOTH Extra Beds

You'll want to do a little strategic furniture moving in order to use both extra beds without blocking pathways...
  • Pull the coffee table towards the fireplace
  • Pull the sofa's hidden ottoman out and up
  • Stack the dining chairs against the wall that's across from the murphy bed (under the coat rack)
  • Pull the dining table towards the sofa/ottoman
  • Bring the murphy bed down
At this point you should have both beds out and no furniture blocking anything.

And you'll find sheets for the sofa bed, pillows and extra blankets in the bedroom closet or in the storage compartment at the end of the chaise. If you're missing anything with regards to pillows or sheets or blankets, call SCMR and they'll bring over whatever is missing.

Towels!

SCMR only provides one towel per guest in the condo. If you happen to be somewhat local and are driving to Keystone from not too far away, you may want to consider bringing pool towels for your stay. But if you are coming in from far away, are staying for many nights, or simply need additional towels, please give SCMR a call and they'll be happy to run more over to the condo.

Fireplace

The switch to turn it on is on the wall to the left of the fireplace. If the switch doesn't turn it on, leave the switch in the on position and go to the grate at the bottom of the fireplace and flip it down. Inside there, you'll see a red button. Press it a few times and the fireplace should then light up. If the fireplace is still not lighting at this point, give SCMR a call and they'll send someone over to help!

Trash and Recycling

There's a trash room just inside the main entrance to the garage. Unfortunately there's no recycling bins in the building. Out front, you'll see 2 bins on the sidewalk. One of those is for recycling. Guests are encouraged to recycle what you can. FYI, Summit County does NOT recycle glass, so please only deposit plastic, aluminum and paper products.

WiFi

The dedicated WiFi network / password for the condo is expedition8558 / expedition8558. There should be two bands avaialbe... 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
If for whatever reason expedition8558 is not visible or not working, you are welcome to connect to expeditioncommon / expeditioncommon.

Laundry

In case you need to do some laundry, there's a small laundry room on each floor containing a single washer and dryer in each. The machines only take credit cards. On your floor, you'll find the laundry room all the way down the hall just around the corner from the elevators.

Pool/Hot Tub

The pool area is open daily from 8am-10pm. The only strict rule that has to be followed without exception is NO GLASS! If anything breaks in the pool or hot tub, it gets shut down and drained which turns into a bummer for everyone.

And on occasion, there's emergency maintenance that has to be done. It's rare, but it does happen. If this happens during your stay, you're welcome to use the Dakota Lodge pool area. There's a key card attached to a lanyard hanging just inside the front door. Walk out the front lobby and you'll see Buffalo Lodge directly across and Dakota Lodge to the right. You can get to the Dakota pool area by going through the gap between those two buildings.

Random Stuff

  • There's a bluetooth speaker on the fireplace mantle. It'll come up as 'Anker' once you turn it on. Feel free to take it out to the common area or the pool. Just please remember to bring it back!
  • Both TV's have built in ROKU. Feel free to watch whatever channels that happen to be logged in!
  • There's a CO flag in the kitchen. It doubles as a wonderful night light. There's a dimmer switch for it inside the cabinet above the microwave.
  • There are several fans in the bedroom closet. Two small ones that work great positioned on the dressers flanking the bed. And one box fan that works great if positioned in front of the sliding door (during summer months!).
  • If you plan on using the air fryer, consider using it on the patio! The smoke detectors are very sensitive, and we've accidentally set them off many times when using the air fryer. Using it outside the sliding glass door alleviates that concern, and it prevents the condo from smelling like bacon and tater tots all day.

Checkout Instructions

  • Please load the dishwasher and run it.
  • Please take out the kitchen trash.
  • Please turn off all lights, including the Colorado flag.
  • Please lock the sliding door and close any windows.
  • Leave all key cards on the dining table, make sure the front door is fully closed and have a safe trip home! Housekeeping will take care of the rest.

We strive to provide a 5 star experience for all of our guests. If you think anything is less than 5 stars, please message us and we will address all concerns to the best of our ability. When considering leaving a review, please be aware that there are sub-category ratings and an "overall rating." For a hotel, a 4.5 star rating is wonderful. But for an Airbnb or VRBO, a 4.5 "overall rating" is actually terrible and is likely getting delisting warnings. That's why you never see 'bad' properties listed! Just something to be conscious of. (more info if you're curious) Thank you!

Lift Tickets

Definitely get your tickets in advance! It's not only easier, but it's way cheaper than the insane window prices.

Go to epicpass.com and make sure you select the correct options. If you're skiing enough days, and if they're still for sale, it might make sense to get a season pass (Keystone Plus Pass, Epic Local Pass or Epic Pass). Otherwise, get yourselves Epic Day Passes. If/when you do that, make sure you select the "32 Resort" option so it includes Keystone. And if you're coming during a restricted period, make sure to select "Peak Dates."

Ski/Board Rentals

For rentals, you have 2 options. Whichever one you go with, book your gear online well in advance! It will save you time and money.

Option 1: Rent in the village. There's several places there... Norski, Keystone Sports, Epic Mountain Gear, Christy Sports, etc. The major advantage of renting in the village is if you're skiing several days, you can go back and change gear as needed without the hassle of driving anywhere. The major drawback to renting from the village is price. It can be 15%-40% more expensive.

Option 2: Rent from a shop in Dillon or Silverthorne. There's many to choose from, and most of them offer great service and deals. The big advantage to this is price. The major drawback to this is having to drive 6'ish miles to pick up your gear and drop it off. And exchanging gear if something isn't working out can obviously be a hassle.

Gear Storage

Skiing/Boarding definitely involves a lot of 'stuff!' And having all that stuff laying around everywhere can definitely make for a disorganized space.

If you have a car and you're parked in the garage, we've found that it's a lot easier to leave all of our gear down there (skis, poles, boards, helmets, boots, jackets). In the morning, we get dressed, go down to the garage, gear up and head out the garage door. At the end of the day, we ditch everything back at the car, put shoes back on and head upstairs. This reduces a TON of clutter around the condo making it a lot more comfortable. This is obviously just a tip and you should do whatever you prefer!

You are also welcome to use the ski lockers if you'd rather not leave your gear in your vehicle. The locker will fit about 4 or 5 pairs of skis and poles. I doubt you'd be able to fit a board in there. The keys are hanging on the hooks just inside the door. The ski lockers are next door to the condo.

And if you want to go all out and not haul gear every morning and afternoon, there's a ski check across from the Gondola where they'll store your gear overnight for a small fee.

Ice Skating

If you or your kids are interested in ice skating, you're in luck! There's an outdoor ice rink right outside of Expedition Station. You can bring your own skates or rent from the little shop at the ice rink. There's also ice skating at Keystone Lake about 3/4 of a mile to the west. Just google it to find the exact location.

Tubing/Sledding

If you're interested in tubing, Keystone offers it at the top of the gondola. You'll have to make reservations for it online. There's also Frisco Adventure Park which is about a 9 mile drive away.

Pro Food Tip!

Food on the mountain is EXPENSIVE! If you don't feel like spending $30 for a burger and fries and don't mind a slightly unhealthy alternative... Ramen! Yes, the square blocks you get from the grocery store for less than 50 cents. We usually each bring one or two packs with us for the day. When taking a break at the Summit House or Timber Ridge, we grab a large drink cup and break up the ramen packet into it. Add free hot water, and voila! You have yourself a hot, gourmet'ish meal for under a dollar. Sure, it's terrible for you, but you're burning thousands of calories on the mountain! If you're already in the village and need ramen, the shop in the village sells it for a small premium.

Hiking

If you're up for hiking, there's endless options out there. Alltrails.com can provide a list of trails in the area.

If you're up for a 14'er-like experience but don't want to spend an entire day doing it, I highly recommend going up to the summit of Loveland Pass which is 8 miles away. From there, you can hike either side and get incredible views. You'd be starting from about 12,000 feet, so definitely bring a jacket and plently of water. If you take the ridge leading to the peaks above Arapahoe Basin (if you're looking down at A-Basin from the summit, it's the ridge to your left), you'll get pristine views of Grays and Torreys peaks from the top of Cupid Peak. That hike can take 3-4 hours round trip. And if you feel like going further, Grizzly Peak is another hour or so beyond Cupid. These are not 14'ers, but they're definitely challenging and well worth the effort.

Another incredible and accessible spot (very easy hiking) is about 1/8th of a mile from the summit of Loveland Pass. From the summit, start heading down towards Arapahoe Basin/Keystone. On your right you'll see a driveway that leads to a small parking lot. From there it's a very short hike/walk to a series of small alpine lakes. It's a perfect place to go if you have small children. Wonderful spot for a picnic.

Biking

If you're there at the right time of summer, lift-access downhill mountain biking at Keystone is a lot of fun. The mountain has a variety of trails from green to double black. You definitely want a decent full suspension bike, so either bring your own or you can rent from several places in the area.

If you're just looking for something more mellow, there's miles of paved trails all the way to and around Dillon Reservoir. Lots of rental options available, including e-bikes.

And if you're a mountain biker up for a challenge, check alltrails.com or mtbproject.com for specific trails. One of the most scenic and incredible rides in the area is Lenawee trail. If you're able to hitch a ride to Arapahoe Basin, that's a big help. Once there, find the CDOT shed across from the upper lots. Just to the right of the shed you'll see the fire road. Ride from there up to the very top of A-basin, find Lenawee trail (veer to the left of the top of the Zuma lift) and enjoy the ride all the way down the other side. The trail spits you out at Peru Creek Road. Keep going downhill on that dirt road until you exit onto paved road just below the quaint town of Montezuma. From there it's still all downhill for another 5'ish miles all the way back to River Run Village in Keystone.

Dillon Reservoir

If you're looking to spend some time on the water, Dillon Reservoir is just down the road. They allow sail boats, canoes, pontoon boats and paddle boarding. The reservoir is surrounded by the towns of Dillon, Silverthorne and Frisco. Each town has several places where you can rent watercraft.

Summer Village Festivals

If you happen to be here over a summer weekend, check to see if there's a festival going on in the village during your stay.

Putt Putt

Winter, it's an ice rink. Summer, it's a putt putt course! Not the biggest or fanciest, but a great way to spend time with the kids just outside the lobby doors. You're welcome to rent putters/balls from the course if you need specific putter sizes. Otherwise, you're welcome to use the putters and balls that are in the bedroom closet. Just please remember to put them back when you're done! Also, to avoid scuffing the floors and damaging walls, please do not putt around inside the condo.

In The Village

There's lots of places to go in the village. Google for details (or click the links for their websites), but here's a list of places we frequent...
  • Zuma Roadhouse - Definitely not a roadhouse, but it's got good food and a bar!
  • Kickapoo Tavern - A longtime favorite that's been around the village since the late 90's.
  • Lime - A Mexican joint with good food and lots of tequila/margarita options.
  • The Argentos! - A fabulous take-out empanada joint. Super easy, fast and delicious. And the people that work there are wonderful.
  • Steep Brewing - Coffee and beer brewers. They also have great food and a full bar.
  • Rotolo's - It's a new place that serves Detroit style pizza. Awesome place to hang out for drinks. $5 Margs, all day, every day! (allegedly)
  • Pizza On The Run - Above average pizza place, great for takeout.
  • Inxpot - The most popular coffee shop in the village. Nice little place with a lot of interesting stuff on their walls, but a bit pricey.
  • The Crepe Stand - Kids and adults love this place. Giant crepes served all day. And you have a big menu of options, sweet and savory.
  • 9280 Sake House - Haven't been here yet! It was just converted to Sake House. Looks like they serve a variety of rice and noodle bowls.
  • Groovy's Mac n' Cheesy - Breakfast, Soups/Chili, and... Mac N' Cheese! And they have The Hideaway Bar.

Outside The Village

All of these places are less than a half a mile from the village...
  • Snake River Saloon - Our personal favorite! Dive bar on one side serving excellent food and drinks. Reservations only dining room on the other side serving excellent food and drinks. Live music on most weekends during peak season.
  • Steep Brewing - Same as the place in the village, except at the Gateway location which is a 5 minute walk from the condo.
  • Haywood Cafe - Awesome breakfast place at the Gateway building.
  • Dos Locos - Very decent Mexican food right next to where you picked up your welcome packet.
  • The Goat (Soup and Whiskey) - Dive bar with not so great food. But a locals favorite for drinks and live music.
  • The Last Lift Bar - Located at the Mountain House base, a very retro apres ski bar. It's rarely crowded, and you can get a draft beer for about 7 bucks. Genuinely retro because it hasn't been updated in decades. Since it's part of the resort's daily operations, it's only open until 5pm.
  • Ski Tip Lodge - Probably the most expensive and fanciest place in Keystone! We haven't been yet, but it looks amazing.

And if you're feeling like venturing further out, there's lots of places in Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Breck!
